We're seeing this error more often, mostly when users upgrade to a newer ManagePLUS version on one of the newer Microsoft Windows versions, Vista and Windows 7, for a couple of reasons:
These Windows versions have much more restrictive file access rights for newly created files in local directories, than did prior Windows versions. We are making changes in ManagePLUS to circumvent problems with these restrictive file access rights.
More users have anti-virus (AV) software installed, such as Norton, McAfee, AVG, Trend Micro, Fix-It Utilities, and many others. This is a "good thing" for security of your computer but a "bad thing" for programs which need to get real work done. Especially problematic, is the AV software feature which scans files as they are opened. (Even Microsoft Outlook as run into problems with Microsoft's own anti-virus software's file scanning!)
If you have file scanning turned on in your AV program, the order of events which can lead to the #11013 error message go something like this:
ManagePLUS' database system creates a temporary file, and copies some data into it.
ManagePLUS attempts to open the file.
Your AV program intercepts this attempt, places a "lock" on a file, and begins scanning the file for viruses (which may take several hundred milliseconds--a long time for a computer!).
ManagePLUS "times out" with the 11013 error, because it couldn't get access to the locked file, in the expected amount of time.
The solution? While none are perfect, you can either:
(a) turn off your AV software's file scanning altogether, or
(b) turn it off while updating your installation of ManagePLUS.
Note that to avoid the problem file scanning must be off when you first open an old ManagePLUS company file. So we recommend turning off file scanning, installing the ManagePLUS update, and then opening each of your ManagePLUS company files (if you have more than one) before you turn file scanning back on in your AV software.
