Mark,
I am continuing to work with Quickbooks and ManagePLUS and like what I see.
I realize you said you would be working with more documentation for the program this week but I had a quick question. I see that I can get the first quantity to come through to ManagePLUS by putting it in the memo column in quickbooks. How do I get the 2nd quantity in?--Like entering the number of head of cattle sold and also the total weight sold.
Thanks, G.P.

We recommend you download the old ManagePLUS Help system from the Downloads page (http://www.goflagship.com/dnloads/mpdownld.htm). It has lots of detail about quantity entries in QuickBooks. The old ManagePLUS User's Guide is available there too. It may not show how to enter dual quantities, if I remember correctly....but it's a nice reference to download & print out.
Also, try opening the sample company file that comes with ManagePLUS, in QuickBooks. It has several example transactions, plus some explanation. (Yes, it was barely mentioned in information provided with the current build...that will be improved.) You'll find it here:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Flagship Technologies\ManagePLUS\QuickBooks Examples\mpFarmExample.qbw
The basic rules for quantity entries are these:
1. In any transaction line where QuickBooks Items are used (Cash Sales Receipt, Invoice, the Items tab of the Bills form, etc.), the 1st quantity in ManagePLUS will come from the Quantity field of the QuickBooks form. The second quantity, if one is supplied, will come from the Memo field of that transaction line.
2. In transaction lines where QuickBooks Items are *not* used, both quantitys may come from the Memo field. Just enter the two numbers separated by an equal sign, like this:
2=2478 Cull cows sold
(2 head, with a total weight of 2478 lbs.)
Just be sure you use the same order every time when entering quantities in Memo fields. A subtile thing to consider: if some quantities will come from transactions where QuickBooks Items are used, the *first* entry in Memo field quantities should match up with the unit of measure as you're using for that QuickBooks Item, or you'll have some transactions with count in the first position and weight in the second, and other transactions just the opposite.
Other rules:
* Always put a blank space following Memo-field quantites before you type other text, or ManagePLUS won't be able to read them. For example, this would NOT work:
2=2478Cull cows sold
* You may enter quantities as math formulas if you like. For example, if you normally keep track of hay sales in tons, but sold 125 small square bales of alfalfa without the benefit of a scale ticket, you can use ManagePLUS' quantity math feature to estimate the weight...while keeping all the detail with the original transaction (not just a total weight):
125*65/2000 Alfalfa hay sold, small squares
(125 bales averaging 65 lbs. per bale, divided by pounds per ton) In ManagePLUS reports , this will show up as 4.06 tons (if I hit the right buttons on my calculator just now)<g>.
Have a look at the old ManagePLUS Help system for an explanation of the kinds of math ManagePLUS supports. (However, note that there may be minor differences from the new ManagePLUS.)
Thanks for the good report!
