Default How to copy FormCalc setups to other workstations on the network

Can I "share" the FormCalc database by copying it from the "main" computer to other computers in the office?

This capability would help me avoid having to recreate everything for each user in the office. That could get rather cumbersome in a 10 user QuickBooks Enterprise setup.

Thank you.
Scott

Yes, you should be able to create a FormCalc setup on one computer, then duplicate that setup information on other computer(s) by copying a file. Here are the steps involved:

1. Install FormCalc on each of the computers where it will be used subject to the number of installs allowed by your FormCalc software license.

2. Run FormCalc at least one time on each of the computers where it will be used. (This step causes FormCalc to create the required directory structures on each computer.)

3. Create FormCalc Layouts on one of the computers, to build a FormCalc setup "master copy".

4. Locate FormCalc's setup data file on the computer where you created the setup "master copy", and copy this file to each of the other computers. Sub-steps for this are:

4a. Shut down the FormCalc program on *ALL* computers.

4b. Find the "master copy" data file. In current FormCalc releases it is named ProgData.bin and can be found via the following folder path (the path may vary slightly with different Windows versions):

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Flagship Technologies\FormCalc\Data_formcalc\ProgData.bin

4c. Copy this file to the other computers, replacing the existing ProgData.bin file on those computers (again, it should normally be found along the same folder path).

5. Now if you start FormCalc on those other computers, it should start up with the Layout and Trigger Items tabs populated the same as on the computer where you created a FormCalc setup "master copy".

Default Re: How to copy FormCalc setups to other workstations on the network

Note that on Microsoft Vista and newer Windows versions, the path described above may be different. On Vista it should be:

C:\ProgramData\Flagship Technologies\FormCalc\Data_formcalc\ProgData.bin

However, this too may change in different situations or newer Windows versions. So if you don't find the file there, you can use Vista's Search feature:

1. Click Start
2. Click Search
3. In the "Search" box, type "progdata.bin".

Wait while Windows searches....searching can take a while, but is simple to use.
