The QuickBooks file that is the subject of this document, Crop Records.QBW, is the first effort in a longer-run project for demonstrating how to keep simple non-accounting records using QuickBooks and ManagePLUS.
![]() | When we say production records we mean records about the operation of a business, which are not necessarily related to any financial transactions but which provide useful management information. |
Our goals for this crop production records example are:
1. | Demonstrate that you can maintain simple production records in a QuickBooks company file. (Let's be clear: we are talking about a separate QuickBooks file from the one that holds your financial records!) This particular example deals with yield records for field crops, but the same concepts work for many kinds of records you might want to keep. |
2. | Show how to use our ManagePLUS for QuickBooks software for easy reporting and analysis of those production records maintained in QuickBooks. |
3. | Show techniques for using ManagePLUS that you can apply to your own financial records, but with a set of records that is more intuitive to understand—and more fun to work with—than "someone else's" imaginary accounting records. (Financial analysis only verges on being fun when you are working with your own records!) |
• | The Crop Records.QBW file. |
It should have been installed by the same installation program (croprec.exe) which installed the document you are reading right now, and should be located in the Documents (or My Documents) folder of your computer.
If you don't have this file you may obtain it for free. You may download the installation program from our ManagePLUS Downloads page: http://www.goflagship.com/dnloads/mpdownld.htm. It's also on the Flagship Software CD, available for a nominal charge from our Web site's Online Orders page (http://www.goflagship.com/orders/onlineorders.htm).
• | Pro or Premier edition of U.S. QuickBooks 2003 or later, or QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 3.0 or higher. |
The Crop Records.QBW file is supplied in QuickBooks 2003 format, which newer versions of QuickBooks can open and use.
• | ManagePLUS for QuickBooks, version 2.0.3.4 or higher; either the licensed or trial version. |
If you don't yet have ManagePLUS, you can try it for free. It's a free download from the ManagePLUS Downloads page of our Web site (http://www.goflagship.com/dnloads/mpdownld.htm). It is also on the Flagship Software CD, available for a nominal charge from our Online Orders page (http://www.goflagship.com/orders/onlineorders.htm) Once installed, ManagePLUS will work in trial mode for 30 days from the install date.
"But I tried ManagePLUS some time ago, and my trial period has expired. How can try it again?" First, be sure to download and install the current version of ManagePLUS. Older versions may not work with the crop records example. Then if your newly installed copy of ManagePLUS still says your trial period has expired, email us at info@goflagship.com and ask for an extension of the trial period. We can extend it another 30 days by providing a temporary registration code. |
Just follow the steps in the next section (Working with the Example). It provides all you need to know about working with the example crop production records, getting yield reports from them, etc.
We have a number of enhancements planned for ManagePLUS which will make QuickBooks-based production records easier and more capable. Those changes will allow us to evolve and expand this example into something truly practical and with real-world usefulness. So check back with our Web site every few months or get on our email newsletter list (visit http://www.goflagship.com/maillist.htm) so you'll be aware of new versions of this example as we publish them.
